Domino’s new pizza recipe campaign worked

Domino’s new pizza recipe campaign worked

Remember those pretty awesome and shockingly honest Domino’s ads from a while back about how their pizza is horrible? Well, apparently the whole “tell people you know your product is bad and you’re sorry” technique worked beautifully, because their sales went way up last quarter. Wouldn’t it be great if this ushered in a new wave of hyper-honest ads from all the people whose products suck? I’m looking at you, Applebees, LMFAO, and Domino’s still.

Google’s building a very high-speed broadband network

Google’s building a very high-speed broadband network

Google will be building and testing a very high-speed broadband network in a few places across the US, and they’re claiming it will be able to move data at up to 1 gigabit per second (that’s like 125 megabytes per second, which is pretty fast, “100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today,” actually, according to Google). As someone who spent my entire childhood with dial-up and finally switched to broadband, I’m really expecting this jump to be at least as awesome, assuming it catches on. I think the FCC could end up muddling in Google’s affairs here and really ruin something great, but looking on the bright side I can’t wait to see what content providers can do with all this added bandwidth.

Warner Music decides to commit suicide, no, sorry, to stop streaming music

Warner Music has decided that they aren’t gonna let streaming music services (Like Last.FM, LaLa, Grooveshark, and Pandora) stream their music anymore. What’s so bad about streaming music anyway? How is it different from the radio? I’m sorry guys, but this is the future of music and the internet, whether you’re on board or not.

Only if you’re sitting in coach though, of course. At this point I’m waiting for the day that an airline announces that after takeoff they’ll charge you $20 every mile to stay on the plane.

Facebook redesigns AGAIN

Facebook redesigns AGAIN

Facebook is rolling about yet another unnecessary redesign, which 80 million users got last night and the other 300 million will be getting soon. The big change is they’re taking the stuff that was on the bottom toolbar, like bookmarks and notifications, and moving it up to the left-hand column where nothing really used to be. According to Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, they’ll be unveiling “something cool” every month from now on, but he wouldn’t say what any of these cool things will be. How much you wanna bet next month they let companies advertise in your profile picture?

Is Amazon gonna make a touch-screen Kindle?

Is Amazon gonna make a touch-screen Kindle?

Amazon has acquired Touchco, a company that (not surprisingly) makes touch-screen technology stuff. Given all the iPad hullabaloo recently and how it just Danny Ocean-ed all the Kindle’s thunder, it seems pretty clear that Amazon wants to make a touch-screen version of the Kindle. Actually, Touchco makes a touch-screen that’s cheaper and cooler than the iPad one, because it can detect an unlimited number of touches at a time, so Amazon may actually be able to make something better than the iPad, although that’s a little bit like saying someone may be able to act better than Megan Fox.

Prius brakes don’t really work

Prius brakes don’t really work

According to Toyota, there are some design problems with the brakes in its poster child the Prius, like that they don’t stop the car. Toyota says that only happens when travelling over an uneven road, bump, or pothole, and that they’ve fixed the problem on cars sold since January, but it’s still not inspiring, and they’re doing a recall. I don’t know what kind of tests they’ve done, but are they sure the problem isn’t just that Prius owners think that because they already bought a Prius, they don’t have to do anything else ever again, including actually hitting the brakes?

Springwise: New business ideas from around the world

Springwise: New business ideas from around the world

I’m currently taking a Survey of Entrepreneurship class in school. It’s both interesting and demanding, and it culminates in the creation of a group business plan. The hardest part thus far has been coming up with an idea. We’ve thrown a lot out there: Financial Literacy Courses, Healthcare Consultancy Group, and someone saw the coaster on wheels idea from Family Guy and brought that one up. While Googling for “unique business ideas,” (I guess my creativity has been lacking) I came across this site. Springwise takes the best upcoming business and product ideas worldwide and places them in an easy to navigate forum. Their scope is massive but they remain incredibly discerning in what they put on the site, so you know that you’re only getting the best of the best picked over with a fine tooth comb. When I read through these ideas, particularly the custom designed jeans or some really unique green product, I’m convinced that I’m gazing into the future and that there is great potential in everything there.

Apple unveils the new iPad tablet

Apple unveils the new iPad tablet

Hey, everybody. Welcome to the first Allthyngs Blog post. The basic idea is that it’s a blog, but instead of being written by one person who’s more interested in himself than he is in being interesting, we have a bunch of people who are actually interesting. We had a big decision to make between doing our first post about the Apple tablet unveiling and Obama’s State of the Union, and we went with the tablet. It’s a pretty nice commentary on our generation’s priorities. I don’t want to give you a whole rundown of what’s in the damn thing, so if you want that go to this post on Gizmodo. Anyway, without further ado…
