The Japanese invented a painless injection method

The Japanese invented a painless injection method

People these days are pussies; that’s pretty much an undeniable fact. I mean, the prototypical big, scary thing for kids is going to the doctor to get shots. That’s not exactly wearing a glove full of stinging “bullet” ants. Fortunately, soon kids will get to be even bigger pussies, because a man in Japan has invented a way to give vaccines painlessly, through a patch with 300 micro needles that dissolve before they break the dermis of your skin, delivering the medicine.

Microsoft’s new product, “Skinput”: The coolest thing ever?

God damn, this is what the iPad should’ve been. Ever since the iPad was unveiled, I’ve been trying to figure out how I want technology to work in the future, how I want to interact with it and all that, and this is EXACTLY what I want. Microsoft has unveiled yet another in their recent line of extremely awesome and futuristic things that has totally restored my confidence in them. This one, called “skinput,” lets you use your arm as a touchpad. Check out the video because it’s insanely awesome, especially the part where a guy plays Tetris on his hand. Only one problem… how do I masturbate with it?

The Daily Show and Colbert Report won’t be on Hulu anymore

The Daily Show and Colbert Report won’t be on Hulu anymore

This isn’t really a huge deal, because you can still find episodes and clips of each at Thedailyshow.com and Colbertnation.com respectively, but it’s fun to watch the old media bumble around confusedly like my grandma trying to buy shoes online. I mean come on, next they’re gonna tell me I can only download movies from one Limewire page at a time and then eat a stick of butter off the table.

Tired of huffing paint? Now you can huff chocolate!

Tired of huffing paint? Now you can huff chocolate!

Are you such a fat-ass that eating chocolate is too much work for you? All that chewing and swallowing crap? Well, thanks to a biomedical engineer at Harvard, now you can just put chocolate in front of your face and continue to breathe and be eating chocolate! The best part is it’s virtually calorie-free and still tastes like chocolate! They call it Le Whif, I guess because their marketing department didn’t like the name “Fat People Air.” All jokes aside, how awesome would it be to fill up a room with this stuff? That would probably be the best way possible to die by asphyxiation. At least until somebody invents inhalable vanilla.

Blaise Aguera y Arcas demos the future of maps at TED

The only reaction you can have to this video is pretty much, “holy shit, it’s the future.” Blaise Aqua y Arugala shows off Bing maps, and it’s probably the most amazing thing Microsoft has ever done. I literally said “wow” out loud twice watching this video. The only downside is that the really cool parts of the map only work on Internet Explorer, because Microsoft just refuses to admit that nobody in their right mind likes Internet Explorer. Watch this video (it’s only 8 minutes), ideally with your robot wife. She’ll love it.

Google’s building a very high-speed broadband network

Google’s building a very high-speed broadband network

Google will be building and testing a very high-speed broadband network in a few places across the US, and they’re claiming it will be able to move data at up to 1 gigabit per second (that’s like 125 megabytes per second, which is pretty fast, “100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today,” actually, according to Google). As someone who spent my entire childhood with dial-up and finally switched to broadband, I’m really expecting this jump to be at least as awesome, assuming it catches on. I think the FCC could end up muddling in Google’s affairs here and really ruin something great, but looking on the bright side I can’t wait to see what content providers can do with all this added bandwidth.

YouTube Starting “Safety Mode”

YouTube Starting “Safety Mode”

YouTube is launching a new, unimproved way to browse the site where instead of seeing sexy stuff, you get to see more ads. They’re calling it “Safety Mode,” and it’ll make videos with violence and sexuality invisdible, although if they open their eyes you can see them again. “Safety Mode” also has a few more ads than regular mode. One nice thing though, is that it hides the comments, which personally I think should be a feature available to even un-safe YouTube users. They’ve even put out a helpful video to explain everything to you, which is embedded after the jump (click “read more”).

Google unveils their competitor to Twitter and Facebook statuses

Google unveils their competitor to Twitter and Facebook statuses

Hey guys! Google just announced this awesome new technology machine. It lets you send messages, pictures, and even videos to someone’s email address! It’s like a tweet or a Facebook status but you only send it to a few people instead of a bunch of people! No no no, it’s not just a more complicated version of email, because you can send responses that go right to people’s inboxes, and if you have a smart phone you can get all this stuff sent to your phone!

Seriously Google, stop trying to reinvent email, email works pretty damn well. You’re calling this new product “Buzz,” but I think a better name might be “Fizzle.”

Let me know what you guys think of Google “Buzz” in the comments below. You can find out more about it at buzz.google.com

Facebook redesigns AGAIN

Facebook redesigns AGAIN

Facebook is rolling about yet another unnecessary redesign, which 80 million users got last night and the other 300 million will be getting soon. The big change is they’re taking the stuff that was on the bottom toolbar, like bookmarks and notifications, and moving it up to the left-hand column where nothing really used to be. According to Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, they’ll be unveiling “something cool” every month from now on, but he wouldn’t say what any of these cool things will be. How much you wanna bet next month they let companies advertise in your profile picture?

Apple unveils the new iPad tablet

Apple unveils the new iPad tablet

Hey, everybody. Welcome to the first Allthyngs Blog post. The basic idea is that it’s a blog, but instead of being written by one person who’s more interested in himself than he is in being interesting, we have a bunch of people who are actually interesting. We had a big decision to make between doing our first post about the Apple tablet unveiling and Obama’s State of the Union, and we went with the tablet. It’s a pretty nice commentary on our generation’s priorities. I don’t want to give you a whole rundown of what’s in the damn thing, so if you want that go to this post on Gizmodo. Anyway, without further ado…

Dying and in dire need of medical treatment??…There’s an App for that.

Dying and in dire need of medical treatment??…There’s an App for that.

The resourcefulness of Apple’s iPhone applications has become a common ploy for amusement in today’s culture, so much so that is on the verge of ridicule. So when I first read the title “Trapped father survives with help of phone app,” my initial instinct was to laugh at what I thought was merely another mockery of the ever so resourceful app. After reading the article, however, I am now convinced that there is actually an App for everything in life. This man, bleeding profusely and clinging anxiously to life while trapped under the rubble created by an aftershock in Haiti, managed to treat his wounds and keep himself alive with the sole assistance of his cell phone. From keeping people in contact to keeping people alive…what will technology do next??
